Reasons To Love Watermelon Slushies
Easy to make. When it’s summertime, you want the livin’ to be easy. Which means you don’t want to be peeling, chopping, and coring a bunch of fresh fruits for a frosty drink. This slushie will keep you cool on even the hottest summer days! Cocktail option. If you want, add a shot of vodka to your watermelon slushie to make a cocktail. Totally up to you! Or try frosé (a frozen rosé slushie) or a frozen Sangria slushie.
What You’ll Need To Make a Slushie
You’ll find recipe measurements and instructions on the recipe card below in a printable format.
Watermelon: This watermelon slushie recipe is a great way to use up that extra watermelon you may have. Make sure it’s a seedless watermelon or you’ll have to pick out the seeds. Water: Add a little drizzle, just enough to help the blender run. Honey: You can add more or less, depending on your preference and the sweetness of your watermelon. Fresh Lime Juice: A good squeeze of lime brightens up the flavor and keeps the slushie from becoming too sweet. Garnish: Sprigs of fresh mint and slices of lime make it fancy.
How To Make A Watermelon Slushie
Add the frozen watermelon cubes, water, lime juice, and honey to your blender. Turn the blender to high speed and blend until all the ingredients are fully combined and the mixture is smooth. Taste the watermelon slushie and add more honey if needed. If the consistency is too thin, add a few ice cubes and blend again. If it’s too thick, add a little water and blend again. Keep in mind that the slushie will get thinner as it melts. Serve with a sprig of fresh mint and a slice of lime, if desired.
Slushie Options
Try different fruit combos. Substitute frozen blueberries, strawberries, peaches, mango, or another fruit of your choice for a portion of the watermelon. Substitute a flavored sparkling water. Add a flavored sparkling water instead of the still water and lime juice to make a watermelon spritzer. Spike it. Add chilled vodka, white (silver) rum, or white tequila (silver or blanco), to taste. Use lemon instead of lime. Instead of lime juice, add a squirt of lemon juice. Garnish with a fancy little lemon twist. If you’d like something a bit different, try watermelon lemonade with mint (cocktail option included). Blend mint into the slushie. For a frozen watermelon mojito vibe, blend a few leaves of mint with the rest of the slushie ingredients. Garnish with additional mint leaves. If you want to try something a little different, basil also pairs well with watermelon and lime.
Storage Tips
Like all slushies, watermelon slushies are best enjoyed immediately. If you have leftovers, you can refrigerate them for up to a day, but they won’t have the same slush-like consistency. Stir well before serving.
Leftover Love
Pour leftover watermelon slushie into a popsicle mold to make watermelon ice pops. I recommend adding a touch more honey if your slushie isn’t very sweet because freezing dulls the sweetness of the melon.
