It’s the mango season, and who could say no to this delicious and healthy fruit. According to Healthline, mango is a good source of folate, several B vitamins, and vitamins A, C, K, and E — all of which help boost immunity. No wonder it is known as the king of fruits. When you crave a dessert or sugary treat, instead of grabbing junk food, try to relish a mango or any seasonal fruits. Fresh fruits are always a better option. As much as I love to relish mango as is, I love to make delicious desserts and condiments with it, too, and today, I am going to share a listicle of the same. Growing up in Periyakulam, nicknamed as “mango city,” mangoes were part and parcel of my childhood. Our summer meals are incomplete without maavadu (tender mango pickles), cut mango pickles, and of course, fresh mangoes. Apart from these, I remember relishing mango bars; aka mango rolls up from local vendors. Ahhh, good old days. I really miss the local mango varieties.
Mango variety that I use
Ok, talking about the varieties, there are 1000s of mango varieties, and within India, you can find a lot like Alphonso, Banganapalli, Salem variety, Malkova, and many more.During summer, I do find Alphonso in the Indian groceries in the US, but they are priced high. In the past few years, I started falling in love with Ataulfo, Haden mango varieties. They are not very pricey, and they taste delicious. There are few other local varieties that I am yet to explore. Most of these mango recipes mentioned below are made with Ataulfo or Haden varieties. My personal favorite is Ataulfo, and they are sweet and not fibrous.
