Past few days have been so cold that all we have been craving was tons of soup and this Instant Pot Crab Bisque fits right in! It’s super easy to make, absolutely flavorful and fills you up for good 3-4 hours. Now, I’m using fresh crab meat to make this Crab Bisque Recipe but you can use frozen or even imitation crab.
It’s also our favorite Sunday night as I always make an extra batch for lunch the next day. I feel bisque’s taste so much better the next day. Maybe it gets thicker or creamier or whatever the reason after a day, it just is soooo yumm! Now, you can make this Instant Pot Crab Bisque with just “crabs and tomatoes” but I like to take it a little further by adding ‘carrots, bell pepper, and herbs‘. Makes it so much more flavorful and gives this amazing rich red color.
Two Ways to Prepare the Crab Bisque in an Instant Pot:
Method 1: You dump all the ingredients in the instant pot and start to cook. Method 2 (my favorite): You slightly cook the veggies to bring out that roasted flavors and gives a nice smokiness to the bisque. Whichever method you choose, the crab bisque tastes absolutely delicious. I personally like the smokey flavored bisque more hence use method 2 mostly. Unless I’m in a hurry, then its method 1 🙂
I usually like topping the Instant Pot Crab Bisque with freshly chopped tomatoes, cilantro and some olive oil mix. And then sprinkle some chili flakes and crushed thyme. You are more than welcome to try this topping or simply add the ‘oyster cracker’ or just nothing on top.

Switch instant-pot to the saute mode and add butter, oil and bay leaf. Add chopped onions and saute for 2 minutes till slightly pink. Now add garlic and saute for a minute. Add herbs+seasoning, celery, carrots, bell pepper and saute for 2-3 minutes (till the carrots begin to soften). Now add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, crab meat and broth. Give everything a quick stir and set to high pressure for 15 minutes. Once complete, allow to come to a natural pressure release. Finally add the cream and use a hand blender/immersion blender to blend everything as per taste (some like it thick and some like it thin). Transfer the crab bisque to serving bowls, add topping and serve. Enjoy hot
