I love quick and instant sweets. And this microwave milk peda is a favorite sweet in our family. It is also known as doodh peda, doodh meaning milk in Hindi.  For parties or potlucks and even during festivals, this milk peda or the badam peda will be my go-to recipe. You can make this sweet this less than 30 minutes and the active cooking time is only 3 to 4 minutes. You don’t need to worry about stirring like for the stove-top version.  Even though I am not a sweet tooth person, I love a few milk-based sweets, and luckily, the family loves it as well. So I always opt for quick and instant microwave sweets. The most significant advantage is, you can make them quickly without any fuss and mess. You can also make in less quantity, which means it’s easy to control the portions, just perfect to curb those sweet tooth cravings. The milk powder plays a significant role here. I get mine from an Indian store, and this time I used the Laxmi brand milk powder/mawa for this. (PS – Not sponsored) Use whole milk powder for this recipe as it yields the best results.

Microwave Timings-

I tested this recipe in my 900W microwave at the full 100% heat setting. I have tried this recipe in the 1100W microwave, also with triple the measure. As the measure was high, I microwaved it for 3 minutes, 3 seconds. And for this one, I microwave for 4 minutes. The overall cooking time is 3 to 4 minutes depending upon the microwave heat setting.  Check for the right consistency and stop the cooking after that.  I have explained the microwave settings and how to find your Microwave power in the moong dal namkeen post. Please refer to that.

Now without any further ado, let’s see how to make this instant milk peda in the microwave.

How to make milk peda in microwave

Add ½ tsp of the saffron to the luke-warm milk and let it soak for 5 minutes. In a safe microwave bowl, combine the milk powder, sweetened condensed milk without any lumps. It will be thick, and that’s ok.  Microwave this mixture for a minute.

Now add the saffron soaked milk and the two tsps of ghee and mix well. Microwave this mixture for about 2 to 3 minutes, stirring the mixture for every 1 minute. Do not microwave the milk powder mixture for more than 1 to 1.5 minutes without stirring.

After 3 minutes of microwaving, let it sit for a minute. Wet your palms and take a small piece of peda and check if you can shape it into a small ball.

If you can shape it, then let the mixture cool for five minutes. If not, microwave again for 30 seconds, mix and let it cool. The total microwave time is 3 to 4 minutes depending upon your microwave heat setting.

Shaping the Peda:

Grease your palm with ghee. Take a small marble-sized peda, roll into a small ball, and flatten it into a round disc. Using a fork, press the peda for some designs, or you can use any cookie cutters and shape the peda as well.  Garnish it with remaining saffron strands. Refrigerate and enjoy it!

Recipe Notes

Do not cook in microwave continuously for more than 1.5 minutes. The timing entirely depends upon the heat power setting of your microwave. But for this, it shouldn’t take more than 4 minutes. Make sure you are stirring the mixture for every one minute. Consistency Check: After three minutes, let the peda sit for a minute. Then take a small piece and see if you can rotate it/shape into a round ball like this. If you can, then that is the right consistency. Do not cook beyond this point. But if the mixture is still semi-solid, microwave for just 30 seconds. Shape the pedas when the milk mixture is warm. If you allow it cool, the mixture thickens, and it’s hard to get a smooth shape. If that happens, add one or tbsps of milk and microwave it for 30 seconds and then start shaping. You can shape the peda according to your preference, either round or oval or elongated.
