About the recipe
There are times when I feel like my system needs a short break. I usually try and avoid refined ingredients and artificial sweeteners for a few days. My favorite resource is Clean Slate cookbook and I follow their 3 day detox program every few months. Detox diets are becoming quite popular these days. They are said to remove toxins from the body. It could be a juice detox or a fasting detox or just clean eating. The idea is to have a diet with lots of fibrous fruits and veggies that help remove toxins, which are removed by binding to fiber. The nutrients in colorful plant foods drive the process of liver detoxification. It also gives the digestive system a rest from processed foods and common allergens (like dairy, gluten etc.). Here I have a antioxidant rich smoothie with grapefruit, strawberries, apple and ginger. You can make this smoothie as part of detox diet or simple when you are feeling sluggish. Try it along with the simple beetroot salad and carrot green bean soup.
