I’m always on the search for something to feed my kids besides goldfish crackers and veggie straws. In all honesty, my husband and I love to snack, too. I try to have healthy snacks available so we still eat well. How long it takes: 3 hours Equipment you’ll need: baking sheet, mandoline or sharp knife Servings: 2 That’s one of the reasons I love these cinnamon ginger apple chips. They are healthy, delicious, and easy to prepare. It takes a little time to dehydrate the juicy apples and turn them into crisp chips, but it’s easy because it’s all hands-off time. If you like the idea of chips made from fruits and veggies, try my microwave sweet potato chips and air fryer zucchini chips, too.
About Baked apple chips
Apple chips are super easy to make. If you have a mandoline, they are unbelievably simple. But all you really need is a nice sharp knife, a baking sheet, parchment paper and apples. I add ginger and cinnamon for a “baked apple” preparation. Choose a firm apple for these chips. Jonagolds are great; they have the perfect texture and are full of flavor. Jonagolds are also phenomenal for eating straight out of the fridge. Of course, I love that they come straight from my favorite mitten state. You may choose whatever type of apple you like or happen to have. A firm textured apple works best. It’s fun to experiment with different kinds of apples and do a taste comparison. How To Make Apple Chips
Slice the apples super thin (use a mandoline if you have one). There’s no need to even core them. I just pick the seeds out after I slice the apples. If you prefer, core the apples so you don’t get the tough areas surrounding the seeds. If you don’t have a mandoline, try to slice the apples as thin as possible using a sharp knife. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with ground ginger and ground cinnamon. You can use any spice combination you like, or leave the apples plain. Bake at a low temperature for an hour, flip, and bake for another hour. Don’t open the oven door, but leave the apple chips in the warm oven for another hour to completely cool and dry. Once they have cooled, you’re left with crispy apple chips full of great apple flavor, enhanced by cinnamon and ginger. They taste like the best baked apples, in snacking form.
Storage Tips
Apple chips will keep for at least a week in an airtight container but I guarantee they won’t be sticking around for long. You’ll get about 10 chips per apple. If you have 2 sheet pans, make a double batch!
