Banana is a fruit that you can find throughout the year, and it’s one of the versatile fruit that you can use in different recipes. Rich in potassium, banana is simply good on its own, and it’s an excellent fruit for instant energy. The best part about banana is it freezes well. And you can use the frozen one in smoothies and milkshakes too. This year, I shared vegan banana walnut bread, and now it’s time for a fusion recipe, and it’s the banana biscuit halwa. I learned this recipe from M’s aunt. When we visited her home last time, she served as a dessert as part of the meal. The taste was unique, of course, delicious. When she mentioned that it’s banana biscuit halwa, I was intrigued and, as always, asked the recipe right away. She happily shared the recipe, and I duly tried. You can whip up many recipes with overripe leftover bananas, and this banana biscuit halwa is one among them. Do try, and I am sure you will love it. As we are using store-bought biscuits here, I did not add any additional sugar. I have tried this recipe with both Good-day and Parle-G biscuits, and both have come out well. I know it’s a calorie-loaded dessert, but it’s fantastic for once in a while indulgence. You can serve it warm or cold. You can even serve it with ice-cream and make it delicious sinful dessert. :-) Now let’s get straight into the recipe.

How to make banana biscuit halwa-

Using a fork, mash all the six bananas and set it aside. And pulse the biscuits in a mixer jar or coffee grinder into a coarse paste. Add the ground biscuits and the mashed banana together and mix it well.  Now heat a saucepan and add 2 tsps of ghee. Add the banana-biscuit mix, ¼ milk, and ⅛ tsp cardamom powder for flavor.  Mix well and cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes. Keep stirring in between and do not leave the halwa unattended. Check for sweetness and add sugar if needed. The bananas add sufficient sweetness so that it won’t be necessary.  Add 1 more tsp ghee after 5 mins and cook again for 4 to 5 minutes over medium-low heat. When the mixture starts bubbling, turn off the heat. The overall cooking time is 10-12 minutes. The halwa will thicken as it cools.  Garnish it with nuts and serve warm or cold.

Recipe Notes

Do not cook the bananas for too long. It might give a bitter taste. If you are using good-day biscuits, then use 5 to 6 biscuits. Add sugar only if needed.  I went with a minimal amount of ghee. You can use up to 2 tbsps for this recipe.
