What’s in apple pie spice?

Cinnamon Nutmeg (try freshly grated if you can, you’ll be amazed at how much more flavorful it is!) Cardamom Ginger Allspice

Can I use pumpkin pie spice instead of apple pie spice?

Sure! There are a couple of differences though. My homemade pumpkin pie spice blend contains cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice. You’ll find more ginger flavor in pumpkin pie spice, and just a hint of cloves, more reminiscent of pumpkin pie.

How to make this Spice Blend your own

Double or triple the recipe. Why not, when you have all the spices out already? Find a pretty glass jar and fill it up. Adjust the flavors to your liking. The amounts of any of the spices can be increased or decreased according to your taste.

Storage Tips

Stored in an airtight jar, ground spices will last at least two or three years in a dry dark environment, such as your pantry or a cupboard. Try not to store them on countertops or next to your stove. They’ll never spoil or expire but the flavor may be affected eventually.
