Air Fryer Kuttu Pakora Fries|Buckwheat French Fries
These fries are my favorite for Navratri’s whether I’m fasting or not. They are super yummy and crispy and the best part???? Without all that oily mess. When it comes to fasting during Navratri or other religious occasions, finding tasty, healthy, and easy-to-make recipes is key. One such delightful snack is the Air Fryer Kuttu Pakora Fries. Made with buckwheat flour (kuttu ka atta), these gluten-free pakora fries are a great alternative to traditional deep-fried snacks. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavors. This recipe is ideal for those who are fasting and looking for a quick snack option that satisfies cravings but remains light on the stomach. Plus, it fits well with a gluten-free diet and is loaded with nutrients. French fries are my weakness and if they are your weakness too, then you got to try these or as we call them Vrat ke French Fries along with my ‘Dhaniya Chutney’ (Cilantro Chutney).
As I’ve detailed in lots of previous Navratri posts, we donot eat gluten if fasting on these days. Hence kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour), Singhara Atta, and Samak are some of the much-used flours/grains during Navratri. Out of which Kuttu ka Atta is my favorite due to its light taste and great crispy texture. Hence we are making these Vrat ke Pakore or Kuttu Pakora Fries.
Air Fryer Kuttu Pakora Fries Ingredients:
Boiled Potatoes (takes less time and become crunchy easily) Kuttu ka Atta (buckwheat flour) Chili Powder – optional Sendha Namak (if fasting) or Regular Salt
Step-by-Step Air Fryer Kuttu French Fries:
Chop the French Fries:
Peel the boiled potatoes (once they are cool to touch). Chop them into desired shapes (thick/thin/french fries/cubes, etc). Keep them in a large bowl.
Mix Oil & Kuttu Flour on Fries:
Now, sprinkle or spray oil on the chopped potatoes. Now, sprinkle kuttu atta (buckwheat flour), sendha namak (salt) and red chili powder on it. Mix, everything thoroughly using your hands or fork until the fries are nicely coated.
Air Fry the Fries:
Lightly brush or spray the fries with a little ghee or oil to enhance their crispiness. Place the kuttu pakora fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Cook the fries for 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through to cook evenly on all sides. If needed, air fry them for an additional 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness.
Serve the Pakora Fries:
Once the fries are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top for a burst of zesty flavor. Serve them hot with a side of green chutney or cooling yogurt dip.
It’s one of my favorite snacks to serve during any Navratri gatherings at home and I usually serve it along hot masala chai. That my friend is a total comfort food combination right there and it’s light, easy to make, and uses few ingredients. Also, Kuttu Atta or Buckwheat flour is rich in fiber, and antioxidants and a great source of plant protein.
Pro Tips for Making Perfect Air Fryer Kuttu Pakora Fries:
Avoid Overcrowding the Basket:
Ensure that the pakora fries are placed in a single layer in the air fryer. Overcrowding will prevent them from becoming crispy, as the hot air won’t circulate properly.
Check for Crispiness:
If you prefer extra-crispy pakora fries, you can increase the cooking time by 2-3 minutes. Just make sure to check on them regularly to avoid burning.
Brush with Ghee:
Brushing the fries with ghee before air frying not only adds flavor but also helps them achieve a beautiful golden-brown color.
Air Fryer Kuttu Pakora Fries are a delicious and healthy snack that you can enjoy during fasting or anytime you want a gluten-free, light snack as it significantly reduces the amount of oil, making it a guilt-free treat.
